27.11.2010 - APPG on Street Children - Hidden in Plain View: Adolescent Girls on the Streets
Speaker: Plan UK
The event will focus on the particular challenges and issues facing girls living and working on the streets worldwide, alongside Plan International's new Because I am a Girl 2010 report. The report draws attention to this most vulnerable group in any city, because although street girls are often less visible than boys they are most at risk of abuse, exploitation and sexual assault, and least able to protect themselves.
The event will see the launch of the Street Girls' Manifesto, which was compiled by street girls from eight countries participating in the Street Child World Cup in Durban, South Africa March 2010. The Manifesto allows their voices to be heard and sets out their vision for how their rights should be realised.
We are very excited to be bringing a diverse range of perspectives to the event, including female street outreach workers joining us via video link. The event aims to give specific and targeted recommendations which would afford girls protection, opportunity and equality within and outside of the street environment.
